the ROUTE
The Juneteenth Half Marathon & 10K runs along the entirety of the Civil War Defenses of Washington Trail (one of Washington, DC’s hidden gems). This beautiful off-road trail traverses between the Anacostia and Deanwood neighborhoods of the District, connecting five Civil War fort sites throughout. Race participants should be cautioned, this is a proper trail run (i.e. dirt, elevation & not for the faint of heart).
the half marathon
This is an out-and-back course spanning the full length of the trail, with a 1,375 ft elevation gain.
the 10k
This is a point-to-point (one way) route northbound along the length of the trail, with a 467ft elevation gain.
Note: Shuttle buses are provided to transport 10K finishers back to Fort Stanton Park for post-race festivities.

The course is a "proper" trail run, meaning most of the route is off-road with significant elevation gain, making it a tough but rewarding challenge!
Half Marathon: 1,375 feet gain
10K: 467 feet gain

This is an informal, unsanctioned event. Participants assume all risks.

Yes, at designated stations along the course. Volunteers will be available.

There are seven water stops along the course. Bring a hydration pack!

There will be 3 pick-up dates. Details coming soon.
There will be limited pick-up on race day - please arrive early if you intend to pick up your bib on race day.

Please park at Anacostia Metro Parking Garage. Free shuttle buses will transport runners from the garage to Fort Stanton Park between 5:00 am and 6:00 am.
Parking is NOT available at Fort Stanton Park, the Anacostia Community Museum, or the Fort Stanton Recreation Center. Please use the designated parking garage.
Post-race, the shuttles will drop runners off at the corner of Howard Road & Firth Sterling Avenue, which is a short walk from the Anacostia Metro Parking Garage.

Yes. A designated tent will be available where participants can leave bags with volunteers. Bags will be labeled with your bib number and must be retrieved with your bib.

No pets are allowed on the racecourse, but they are welcome at the post-race celebration.
